DPS Real Time Communication

The 250 Mbit/s optical real time network lies at the heart of all Triphase DPS systems. All DPS targets, power modules, inverter stacks and sensors have a high-speed real time network interface.

There are 2 types of real time DPS communication:

  • Field Node Communication: real time communication backbone between the RTT and interfaces to PMx AC and DC amplifiers, inverter stacks and voltage and current sensors;
  • Inter-target Communication: real time communication backbone between multiple real time targets. These targets can be either DPS RTTs or targets delivered by a supported 3th-party supplier.

Futhermore the DPS real-time target supports a variety of industrial communication busses to interface Triphase equipment with 3rd-party equipment.

Real Time Field Node Communcation

The DPS communication backbone enables high-speed, real time communication between an RTT and a wide range of field nodes. Field nodes are digital interfaces to PMx AC and DC amplifiers, inverter stacks and voltage and current sensors. Multiple field nodes connect in a daisy chain manner to a Triphase real time target (RTT) where data is made available for further processing. The DPS network also handles field node synchronization. Each DPS string can be configured to handle up to 7 or 15 nodes. The schematic below shows the DPS RTT-Field Node architecture.

Triphase offers following RTT interfaces for real time field node communication:

1-channel FC-PCIe interface card for communication between the RTT and field nodes (Power Modules, Measurements, ...). 1 x 250 Mbit optical fibre.

Network interface: 1 x Plastic Optical Fiber (POF)

Dimensions: 1 x PCIe unit

Real Time Inter-target Communication

With a different software stack, operating over the same physical layer as the Field Node communication, the DPS communication backbone enables high-speed, real time communication between an multiple real time targets. These targets can be either DPS RTTs or targets delivered by a supported 3rd-party supplier. Target 1 sends data to Target 2 and receives data from target 3, Target 2 sends data to target 3 and receives data from target 1, and so on. This means that each target’s software can decide explicitly which data is passed on to the next target.

[OPAL_FC_IPC] Opal-RT Real Time Interfacing Card - single channel

1-channel, PCIe interface card for communication between the Opal-RT OP5600 and other real-time targets with Triphase IPC Interface. 1 x 250 Mbit optical fibre.
Important: Minimal RT-lab version: 11.0.3 - Valid Opal-RT license required - Temporary Triphase driver needs to be requested from Opal-RT before commissioning.

Industrial Field Bus Communcation

To interface with 3-party equipment over an industrial field bus, Triphase offers several options. With these interface cards, communication between the control algorithm and the 3rd-party equipment can be set up.

[RTT_CAN] CAN Network Interfacing Card

2-channel CAN-PCIe interface card for communication between the RTT and CAN networks. There is galvanic isolation of up to 500 Volts between the computer and CAN sides.
